Strategic U.S. West Coast project strengthens Künz’ expansion in the American market.
Künz GmbH and ABB have secured a major order for the delivery of nine Rail Mounted Stacking Cranes for the expansion of TraPac LLC’s terminal in Los Angeles, California.
The project is part of a strategic terminal expansion program at TraPac. The nine new Rail Mounted Stacking Cranes will increase yard capacity and support the long-term development of container handling operations at the terminal.
The cranes will be manufactured at Künz production facilities in Europe. The assembly will be carried out in Poland to allow a fully erected, commissioned and tested delivery, which
is scheduled between 2027 and 2028.
Künz will deliver the complete steel structure of the cranes, including the integration of all mechanical components. ABB, as long-standing technology partner of Künz, will supply the electrification and control systems for the project.
Over decades, Künz and ABB have successfully delivered crane systems for container terminals worldwide. Their collaboration combines Künz’ expertise in structural design and mechanical engineering with ABB’s advanced electrification and control technologies, resulting in reliable and high-performance yard crane solutions.
The contract for TraPac marks another important step in Künz’ continued expansion in the United States, particularly on the West Coast. The American market represents a strategically significant region for the company’s long-term international growth.
“The contract at TraPac on the U.S. West Coast underlines our capability in the international container industry. With innovative technical solutions and a consistent focus on quality and reliability, we continue to position ourselves successfully in highly competitive global markets,” says David Moosbrugger, Managing Director of Künz.
“We selected Künz and ABB based on their proven ability to deliver reliable, high-performing equipment,” said Cameron Thorpe, Chief Executive Officer, TraPac. “This investment strengthens our terminal infrastructure, supports our strong growth, and ensures our equipment operates as one cohesive, safe and efficient system.
